 ABOUT SLÁINTE 2020

WHAT IS SLÁINTE?

Sláinte (a Gaelic expression meaning "healthy" or "safe") is a collective fundraising effort to assist the Irish community in the tri-state area during the Covid-19 Crisis.

WHAT IS OUR AIM?

There is a wonderful Irish expression, ‘Ní neart go cur le chéile’ – There’s no strength without unity. We aim to harness the collective reach of well-known Irish organizations to maximize our fundraising potential and provide financial relief for Irish individuals and families adversely impacted by the COVID-19 crisis in the tri-state area. No one organization can do this alone, but by working together we hope to make a meaningful difference to the lives of those in our community who need assistance at this time. Our neighborhoods have changed beyond recognition in a few short weeks. We want to keep our communities together and support them by alleviating some of the stress and anxiety during a time economic uncertainty.

WHO IS INVOLVED?

Sláinte 2020 is a partnership consisting of The Aisling Irish Center, Emerald Isle immigration Center, New York GAA, New York Irish Center and United Irish Counties: five long-established Irish organizations, five not-for-profit organizations that have solid reputations, strong track records and are well known and trusted by members of the Irish community. It is our hope that this initiative will also be generously supported by the large network of civic and social organizations with close ties to Irish communities across the tri-state region.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR SUPPORT FROM THE SLÁINTE FUND?

Members of the Irish community currently living in the tri-state area who can demonstrate genuine financial hardship caused by the COVID-19 crisis and who have very limited or no access to other sources of fiscal aid.

The success of Sláinte depends totally on donations received. The more money we raise, the more people we can help in a meaningful way.

WHAT IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS?

The streamlined application process utilizes a simple intake form. Once an application has been submitted, it undergoes a review process that includes verification and other due diligence. Applications will be dealt with in the strictest of confidence. No information may be disclosed by either the recipient of support or the supporting organization except where required by law.

WHO MAKES THE DECISIONS?

A steering committee with representatives from the Aisling Center, Emerald Isle Immigration Center, New York GAA, New York Irish Center and UICC has established the eligibility criteria, and put in place verification procedures, as well as guidelines for determining awards.

HOW DOES SLÁINTE GUARD AGAINST FRAUD?

Verification procedures and internal controls are in place to ensure that funds go directly to families and individuals who meet the eligibility criteria.  The Sláinte fund utilizes at least two reviewers per application, and due diligence involves checking more than one source to confirm applicants’ identities and how they have been impacted by the COVID -19 crisis. Applicants will be asked to attest to the accuracy of information provided to the Sláinte Fund. Provision of false information will result in immediate disqualification for assistance.

WHAT PERCENTAGE OF MY DONATION GOES TO HELP THE VICTIMS THE COVID-19 CRISIS?
